Myiasis
The invasion of mammalian tissue by dipterous larvae is called myiasis. Commonly it is caused by the larvae of house fly (musca domestica). On open ulcers, the flies lay their eggs. The eggs hatch and larvae are formed which burrow through deeper parts of ulcers. Treatment consists of removal of maggots with forceps and douching the wound for 30 minutes with 15% chloroform dissolved in any light vegetable oil. Good results may also be got by application of turpentine or by spraying with ethylchloride.
